FAMILY THERAPIST
@ Hand in Hand Day Treatment Program
(Full-time)

Position Summary:

Responsible for case management and clinical services for up to 12 pre-school children with emotional disturbance and their families including biological, foster and proctor families.  Also provide on-going consultation for proctor families. May also provide individual therapy for several pre-school age children as part of their services in the day treatment program.  Family therapist will also perform intake duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education/Experience Required:

  1. Masters degree in social services field required. Prefer licensure in applicable field.  
  2. Minimum two years experience doing family therapy with case management experience. Pefer 3-4 years experience. 
  3. Experience in a day treatment setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to stay organized and work under pressure.
  • Experience working with foster families and providing training to others very helpful.
  • Must have empathy skills, and understand the impact of abuse and neglect on children and communicate that impact to caregivers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff and the community especially DHS and County Care Coordinators.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to provide physical, therapeutic interventions, including restraints of children.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries. 
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultures.
  • Values working in a multicultural/diverse work environment.  
  • Openness to feedback and supervision. 
  • Experience with Windows, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and email programs required.
  • Manual dexterity allowing for use of office equipment and performance of office functions (i.e., copying, typing, filing, faxing, telephone use, etc.)
  • Ability to be organized and meet strict paperwork deadlines.
  • Able to work independently & do community liaison work.
  • Ability to regularly attend and be punctual for scheduled work commitments and meetings and be in a condition suitable for assuming responsibilities of position.
  • Knowledge of the Wraparound Process.

Other Requirements:

  • A criminal history background check is required for all employees working directly with children served by the Morrison or working at a site providing such services.
  • Bloodborne Pathogens training is required on the first day of employment.
  • Provides emergency first-aid, as needed, and maintains a current standard first-aid/CPR certification.
  • Personal transportation allowing for travel within the Portland metropolitan area in a timely manner.  Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for state of residency, personal auto liability coverage, and a driving record permitting coverage under the corporate auto liability policy. If driving a personal vehicle for work purposes 3 times a week or more, must have and maintain personal auto liability insurance at the $100,000/$100,000 level.
