RESPITE CARE WORKER
@ Hand in Hand Early Childhood Services
(Part-time: 2 to 10 hrs/wk)

Position Summary:

Respite Care Workers are primarily responsible for providing respite care to proctor children and treatment foster care children while proctor and treatment foster care parents attend weekly support meetings or treatment reviews at the Knott site. They may also provide respite services at the Knott site on other days that respite is needed.

Schedule - Monday 6:15pm to 8:15pm plus day hours when parents have meetings. Must be able to commit to 6 months.

Education/Experience Required:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Experience with children and/or youth necessary, at least one year of experience preferred.
  3. Knowledge of Early Childhood Development and behavior management desired.
  4. Bilingual skills preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Must enjoy working with children.
  • Must demonstrate empathy skills.
  • Must have the ability to provide auditory, visual and physical supervision of clients.
  • Values working in a multicultural/diverse work environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a broad variety of people, including staff, supervisors and management.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse cultures.
  • Openness to feedback and supervision.
  • Ability to regularly attend and be punctual for scheduled work commitments meetings, and be in a condition suitable for assuming responsibilities of position.
  • Must be able to work well under stressful conditions, and handle pressure.
  • Ability to provide physical, therapeutic interventions, including restraints of children.
  • Effectively monitor safety and demonstrate group management skills and effectively de-escalate potentially chaotic or volatile situations.
  • Stays calm and emotionally available in an environment serving severely traumatized and/or emotionally disturbed children.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

Other Requirements:

  • Must pass a criminal history background check, conducted after hire.
  • Bloodborne Pathogens training is required on the first day of employment.
  • Provides emergency first-aid, as needed, and maintains a current standard first-aid/CPR certification.

Salary/Benefits:

$10.00 per hour
